All I wanted was a table saw – that’s right, a simple, fairly inexpensive table saw that I could use while working on the basement. As with most things dealing with “The Basement”, it wasn’t that simple…
The journey begins many months ago once I decided to buy a table saw (why? because I dislike rotary saws). I made a short list of items I wanted in such a saw and begin to shop around. Finally the day came in which I could make my purchase and enjoy the sweet happiness of owning a new power tool.
Walking with a giddy step, I made my way into Sears to purchase a 10 inch jobsite table saw with 26”x19” table plus extension wings. Concerned that the saw might not come with a blade, I asked a passing salesman if the saw included a blade. While salesman, Ben, did not normally work in the tools section, he took on the challenge and tried to uncover the correct answer.
To our dismay, he discovered that due to a scheduling mishap there was no one on duty in the tool area as well as the fact that there were no saws in stock at the store. Not one to be quickly turned away, Ben went beyond his job and found a saw at Sears’ warehouse a mile down the road (and yes, it did come with a saw blade). While my giddy walk had slowed considerable over the past 45 minutes, my soul was uplifted at the precept of having a new saw in time for Labor Day weekend (two days away). So I bought the saw and drove down to the warehouse to pick it up – smiling all the way.[@more@]
Two days later, it was the grand Saturday of the working mans holiday – the perfect time for some home improvements. Turning of the basement radio, I happily cut the tape on the box and begin to unpack my new table saw. Imagine the horror I felt as I reached down to pull out the saw only to see a huge six inch long crack down the corner of the saw housing!
My happiness bubble broke faster then a country song gone wrong with a wave of dread poring into the vacuum. My new saw was useless!
To my rescue came the beautiful Princess of the castle – holding my softly as the tears fell rolled down my checks. Today would be a day of mourning as The Basement defeated the brave champion…
The Blackness continued for two dreary days, when at last the champion rose to his feet – bound and determined not to let The Basement defeat him. To town O’ Great One – maybe we ride towards the life giving wells of power tools!
(to be continued….)
Table Saw
This is the reason I am glad I am an accountant. My wife gets a look of terror when I talk about doing home improvement outside of painting. So I go and hire someone else to fix the problem.
LOL! That’s probably the cheapest and easier way of doing it. =) Yet, I can’t help but puff up my chest when I complete a project… *sigh* I’m a sucker for home improvements. =/
Mine works great! … cept I never get time to touch it, so I’m assuming it works great
